The objectives of the association are to promote and further the craft of beekeeping and to conserve and promote our dark native bee Apis Mellifera Mellifera L. The Ashford & District Beekeepers’ Association is very active in the local community. Our members are young and old, experienced and novice, commercial and hobbyist who are all brought together by their love of bees.

For most of the year we meet in the Heritage Centre in Ashford village and we organize many activities throughout the year to educate the public about the importance of bees in the environment and to promote and further the craft of beekeeping.

Some of the activities of the association include:

  • We run a practical hands-on Beginners’ Course every year
  • We support all our Beginners with ongoing mentoring and support
  • We hold monthly meetings with invited Guest Speaker
  • We collect swarms for concerned members of the public during the summer season
  • We offer full support to those members seeking National Beekeeping Qualifications
  • We hold an annual Fun Open Day for members and their families

We are one of the fastest-growing Associations in Ireland and we are always delighted to welcome new members of all ages.

Swarms

We can catch and remove swarms from many areas in County Wicklow.
